Vespa Covers
How do i take apart a Vespa px125 steering column and handle bars without breaking anything?
I recently brought a 1996 vespa px125 and have started to restore it as it is in bad condition but i am stuck on taking apart the steering column and handle bars. i have taken the handle bar cover off which houses the speedometer and the front light but am puzzled by the next step. i
f you have any ideas or any help or websites to provide pictures and info. i would be extremely helpful.
ok the correct answer and 10 points for meeeeeeeeeeeee.
do not disconnect the gear cable or throttle cable (you don't need to unless they are shagged and you want to replace them.
1 ) there is a13 mil bolt in the centre of the headstock, undo this
2) there is a 11 mil nut and the bottom of the forks for the front break, lossen this, do not remove completely.
3) the speedo cable is disconnected so you do not need to take this off but do push it down close to the inner fork as possible, not too far so that you cannot get it back up again.
4) pull the brake cabe completely out, preferably just the inner cable.
5) pull the headstock up. if you put the steering lock on you will fin it a lot easier and you just pull and twist.
6) you should now have the headstock resting on the legshields.
7) you will have 2 nuts with three flat edges on them holding the fork in place. using a good hammer and a large flat head screwdriver.
place the screwdrive into one of the flat edges and hit it with a screwdriver anti clockwise.
9) once you have done the first one there is a locking plate beneath it, that just lifts out.
10) do the same to the next nut, once loose undo the steering lock and if you take of the front wheel you will find that the forks will drop nicely down.
you might need a friend to lean the bike over when trying to remove the forks completely out of the frame.
