My scooter won't start please help?

Hi there my SYM JET 1999 50 cc scooter won't start with the kick start or the electric start. I have just replaced the spark plug and it still isn't working what could be wrong. please help

coil/plug wire assembly is bad, carburetor is bad, piston rings worn and not getting compression could be any number of things
