Is it OK to use fully synthetic 2-stroke oil on my 1959 Lambretta LD scooter?

If so, in which proportion?

I wouldn't. The modern synthetic oils are usually ester or poly alchlyne glycol (PAG). It could cause damage to your engine, especially with seals. Synthetic 2 stroke oils are made for sustained high RPMs in racing situations. I doubt you'll be dropping a knee at the Isle of Man TT anytime soon on this machine.

My guess is that the original recommendation was probably a mineral oil or even castor based product (love the smell of Castrol R or Blendzall). In the USA it would be hard to find, but outside the USA Castrol Classic Oils (type that in your browser) and ask them via an e-mail questionare. Some of those guys really know old motorcycles. They may even be able to tell you the correct ratio to mix the oil.
