Piaggio 125 Back break is loose on my 125cc moped?
how can i tighten my back break on my piaggio typhooon 125 moped. there is alot of freeplay and its not at all strong.
Is your brake a drum or disc? If it is a drum, there should be a long thin rod that runs thru the brake activator lever and will have a nut on it. Simply tighten the nut. You want about 3/4" or so of free travel in the foot lever. If the adjuster has no more room left to tighten down on it, then it is time to replace the brake shoes. A bit more involved, but can be done by almost any back yard mechanic.
If it is a disc brake, then check to make sure that the fluid is where it is supposed to be-between the 2 lines and also while there check the color of the fluid-it should be clear to weak tea colored. If very dark then the fluid needs changing. Now that you have check the fluid level, next thing would be to get a new set of pads and install them. Pretty simple job-you will need the proper wrenches to remove the brake caliper and a "c" clamp to put on one of the old pads and push the piston back into the brake caliper. Then simply install the new pads and reinstall the caliper. You will need to pump the brake peddle to get the pressure back up to where it needs to be.
