Vespa PX stuck in first gear - what could be the problem?

Hi,
i was trying to put bar-end mirrors on my Px (which dont work) and ever since messing with it the gear selector wont move out of first gear. Think i may have broken a clutch cable, any advice on a repair? - thanks

Have a look by the back wheel on the offside. The offside is the same side as the front brake if that's makes sense as I don't know what country you're in.
Any how at the back wheel you will see the clutch cable exiting, if the cable is hanging off or if the cable at the lever end on the handlebars doesn't look right you have found your problem.

Replacement isn't too difficult but not easy either, though thankfully the inner cables are only £1.00 each!
You have to pull them out from the engine end (obviously having undone the handlebar end) but only pull the inner cable about half way out. Once you have done this start feeding the cable in from the handlebar end and sort of follow the old one out.

If you Google 'replace Vespa clutch cable' there is a guide with pictures on the net somewhere.

Oh, before you replace the cable try slackening the adjuster on the engine end and getting someone to pull the inner cable out a bit before you tighten up the adjuster. Once again if you Google it there is an on-line guide somewhere with pictures.
