What kind of scooter should I get?

Let's speak realistically here, I ean I would love a Lambretta but I do not have that kind of money.

Right, I've got £600 from selling my Yamaha RX-S 100cc, and I want a 100cc or so scooter.
What makes could I get?
I would rather have a scooter that looks old, none of these new shiny vespa things, something that looks like it rode out of Quadrophenia.
I will be able to make a bit more money, but not loads.
Any nice reliable models of scooter?

since you're asking from somewhere in the UK i dont think i can give you any advice, since you have lots and lots of them that we dont have here in the US.

we have some nice cheap scooters here. those made in china. i dont know if you have them there or if you want want.

Tips On Buying Motor Scooters

So what's all of the hum about motor scooters in the news? Motor scooter sales are climbing as customers struggle to handle rising fuel costs. In the past five years we have seen gas prices nearly double and many drivers believe they haven't any other option except to pay the high cost to get to work. Resourceful drivers have been hunting for methods to cut back their gas costs and this had lead to the increase sales of motor scooters.

Gone are the times of underpowered little scooters that had small use other than being a fun toy. Makers are listening to consumers and building motor scooters that you can drive nearly anywhere that you would drive an auto. Small motor scooters with 50cc engines are still free and are still selling well, but more moderen, bigger motor scooters are all the rage. With engines over 100cc's and features like windows, radios and bigger tires, these new generation motor scooters are giving shoppers new options when it comes to personal transportation.

Here's a few things that you need to have a look for when purchasing Motor Scooters :

Engine Size?

Engine size quite probably the most vital factor in deciding on a motor scooter as this can dictate where you will drive your new scooter. If you purchase a small motor scooter with an engine size below 100cc, then you will want to stay away from highways and in numerous areas might be taboo from driving on the road. If you plan to use your motor scooter on major roads, you will want a model above 100cc, and presumably the size of your budget will permit. The larger the engine, often the faster it'll go. If you don't require the feeling of not having enough power, go for the bigger engine sizes.

Features

This again will depend on what you intend to do with your motor scooter. If you plan to spend a lot of time driving your scooter, choose a model that comes with a respectable quantity of storage, a complicated suspension system, bigger tires, a radio and a windshield. Also, ensure that the seat is formed properly for your body type and that it provides you with enough support for a long trip.

What is the Usual Cost

Usually cost is one of the most significant factors in choosing the right motor scooter for you. If you just want a cheap motor scooter which will get you from point A to point b, an off-shore model will possibly suit you well. Models made in China are available on the web for under $1000 and are made for the truly budget conscious consumer. If you have a little more cash to spend, opt for a more mainstream model such as a Vespa, Honda or Yamaha. Ultimately, if you'd like'the mother of all scooters', you can simply spend over $5000 and get a Suzuki Burgman. These large boys are about the scale of a regular motorcycle but offer the uniqueness of being a motor scooter.

How Long Will My Scooter Last?

The final factor to consider is the period you plan on keeping your motor scooter. If you plan on keeping it for a period of years and want it to last, with the facility to drive thousands of miles, opt for a larger engine model. Bigger engines will be better suited for high mileage, while a little, inexpensive motor scooter would be better suited to occasional driving or a specified period of time. Many students purchase motor scooters as a trustworthy and economical auto to drive during the summer months and a little, 50cc model would be well suited to this purpose. Brand is also a consideration in figuring out the quality of a motor scooter. You'll note that there are many motor scooters still on the road that were built in the 70's & eighty's and they're still going robust. Just like everything else, if you maintain it correctly, it'll last for much longer.

I'm hoping that I have supplied you with a selection of things to consider before heading out to get a motor scooter.
