does anyone know how i can make my scooter go dramaticaly faster than it is now. It does 50mph tops, but i was wondering if i could drop a 70cc kit in it (are theses also knon as big bore kits or 47mm kits?) i wasn't sure what other parts i would need to do the job, Iknow its gonna get hot but that don't bother me as i alreday have a solution to that. also do i need to increase the fuel/air intake?

Does anyone reccommend any products/websites?

One thing to bear in mind though, is that you will dramtically decrease reliability of the engine as obviously it was not built to run like that. But you sound keen so...

1) invest in a aftermarket air filter. One that does away with the airbox and it left open. A good one will be TNT or K&N:

2) Belt & Rollers. Invest in a performance belt and heavier rollers. When the engine spins, the rollers throw out and connect the engines power to the rear wheel via the belt. If you get heavier rollers, the engine will reach a higher rev before the rollers throw out and thus acheiving a faster pull away speed.

3) You do not need to do anything with the fuel intake. The engine will draw as much as it needs. One thing you could do though is to add in a fuel filter if you dont already have one. this is because with all the tuning, the engine becomes more delicate, so you want to reduce the danger of having any grit in the fuel as it reaches the engine.

4) Big bore kit. If you have a 50cc moped, then max you can move up to is 72cc. You can find a huge variety online but the best are generally Polini, Tomos and Puch. You can find some budget ones from America or China, but you know the old saying "what you pay for is what you get..."

5) Other than the above there really isnt that much more you can do engine wise. You could start looking at the suspension, maybe get a stiffer shock, some performance break pads or even new break calipers. You could start looking at the cosmetics, maybe new colours and racing decals.

How do I find out what model my Piaggio scooter is?

Hi, this is going to sound really foolish but I cant identify what model my Piaggio scooter is!!

Its an X reg (2000) 49cc Piaggio Zip, thats all the seller and the log book shows. But short of that I know nothing. Unfortunately when I attempt to buy parts or insure it I am asked what model it is and Piaggio Zip is not sufficient!

Any help would be appreciated, I will check back and give best answer quickly.

You've asked this question in Y!A USA, but the way you've phrased it ("X-reg") makes me think you are actually in the UK - am I correct?

Anyway, the Zip only came in 2 engine sizes, and even then not in all markets, so how hard can it be for an insurance company or parts person to figure it out??!! Sounds like you might need a better dealer and a better insurance company. A Zip is a Zip is a Zip!
