Piaggio Mp3 250cc Scooter
What is the best scooter to buy? I am 286lb and I am seeking to buy a fast scooter to go to work?
burgman,majesty,skywave or mp3 piaggio?? is 250cc enough?
250cc is just barely enough to do highway speeds for any length of time. You can go 70 mph but they aren't designed to keep up that speed for miles and miles. The engine is beating its little heart out, plus the suspension isn't designed for that speed so it's not comfortable. Or safe.
350 or better is good. The Burgman and Silverwing go up to 650cc, and people routinely cross continents on these machines. The Yamaha Majesty is 400cc, I think. That would be big enough.
I would rather have a Japanese scooter. All the Japanese mfgrs are very good. I would trust them more than China, Taiwan, Korea,etc., even if it meant buying a used one instead of a new one. Vespa (Piaggio) is good but expensive. The MP3 has the two wheels in front, which I think is interesting, but not necessary. I think some people have trouble balancing on 2 wheels, so this is for them.
Scooters are VERY easy to ride. They have a low center of gravity so they're very manageable. And they have auto transmissions. If you can ride a bicycle, you can just hop on a scooter and ride it home. They make great commuter vehicles (in good weather). But consider that you might find you love your scooter so much you're taking it on joyrides on weekends. That's what happened to me. My first bike was a Lambretta 200cc, and I ended up doing 150 mile days on weekends.
