Is your clutch pedal very close to the brake also?

I got a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 so I could learn how to drive manual transmission. It's been 4 months now and it has been good fun. Only thing that gets me is: the clutch pedal seems too close to the brake.

When I let off the clutch, I have to move my knee to the left and let my leg come up on the side of the steering wheel. Otherwise, if I let my leg come up straight from the clutch pedal, my knee will hit the bottom of the steering wheel and get stuck = not good. If I move my seat back, I won't be able to press the clutch in all the way. Steering wheel is in highest position. Brake and accelerator cause no problems, because those pedals don't come up that high.

I feel like the pedal should be a few more inches over towards the door. This way I'm not twisting my knee or ankle... plus I'm not squishing my nuts when I clutch and brake. Anyone else's car feel this way?

Note: I'm 6'0" tall and maybe the car's proportions are just too small for me.

This is a case where the car does not fit you. Even if you want a car really badly, it may not suit your size or driving style.

I am also 6' tall and drive a '01 Ford Focus ZX3 5 speed. It fits me great and I love it. I test drove an Escort ZX2 before I bought my car and I was not comfortable in it.
