Top Line Scooters

Anybody have a 250cc or bigger scooter, Chinese or other?

I am looking into buying a 250cc Scooter and have looked at everything and heard all the dealer tales, now just want to hear from real owners. I know Vespa, Honda and others are top of the line but I can't afford them.
Those who have the Chinese and "other" scooters, are they any good, what kinds of problems have you had?

Kymco is one of the brands I recommend 100%. Last Spring, I did the same research you are doing now.

I looked at a new Vespa (to much $, temperamental, smaller wheels not great above 50 MPH) i tested a new Piaggio BV250 (P owns Vespa, large wheeled, less than V but still pretty pricey) at the Vespa dealer.
I looked at Aprilia's Scarbeo and wanted to get a SportCity 250 but were out of stock and would be for at least 2 months (all dealers were out of all bikes 250+ by this time) Aprilia is owned by P and essentially all 250 bikes by Vespa/Piaggio/Aprilia/Gilera are the same engines with slight carb/injector differences.

Honda only offered the SilverWing (big ride for big money) and the Elites in the 100 CC range (think flashdance and going 40 MPH). Oh...and the Ruckus (ugly, small fat wheels)

Suzuki Burgmans are very nice rides in either the 400 or 650 sizes but can be very pricey but very solid rides. Some 400's have a slight CVT issue to watch for.

Yamaha has several smaller bike and the different looking Morpheus and the Coleman-cooler looking C3 but I am not sure about the avaialbility Most of their scoots are smaller.

In the end, I stumbled over Kymco. A brand I had NEVER heard of. They were the OEM manufacture for Honda and have been selling scooters since 1963. They are currently producing the motors for anew BMW bike due this year.

Check out their website and look over the models. Read the Yahoo groups and check out other forums and you will find that the Kymco riders are very happy with their cost-effective and reliable scooters. Look at the style and either get a new one ofr buy a used one like I did.

I almost forgot, 99% of the china scoots are a waste of your money. Most scooter shops will not work on them as they can't fix them to run correctly, if at all. Not that they won't fix them, it's that they are un-fixable.
